BALLYWALTER WIN FIRST CUP MATCH

On Saturday the 9th March Ballywalter youth football team won their first cup match against Ulidia with an amazing 6-0 victory. The match was played at Blanchflower playing field in Belfast. A Ballywalter player called Cal said “We were the better team”. A player for the other team said “We did not do our best and should have done better because we have beat them before” Another supporter said, “Ballywalter were the better team they passed the ball better and had more control over the ball.” The team are still very happy with this win.

NEW CLOUGHEY AND DISTRICT RIDING CLUB

A riding club in Cloughey has opened up and it is called Cloughey and District Riding Club to get children over 11 to adult at any age out and about with their horses. The riding club opened in September 2010. Everyone over 11 is welcome to join.

Until it is officially affiliated with the British Riding Club Association, there are only allowed to be 50 members and there are now people waiting to join because it is so popular. The most recent event was the fun day at the Peninsula for Children in Need where they had “Le Track” which is a French riding competition where riders have to jump get on and off to open gates and bit of games skills. There also was a fancy dress.

One of the members of the committee (Christine) answered some questions about the club. She said riders join, "because they learn more about looking after their horse and they learn to ride better. They meet others with the same interest. They get to compete for their club and they can do qualifications and exams.” A new club was needed, "because there isn’t a club this far down the Peninsula and other clubs were too far away, especially for people who work during the day. Other local clubs are quite competitive and our club members would prefer to learn and improve riding rather than compete."
